ScaleCheck is an independent project that uses size as a way into the ecology of animals, the structure and history of buildings, and the wider stories behind celestial bodies and objects.
ScaleCheck's visual atlas places a blue whale, a person, the Burj Khalifa, Earth, and the Sun within one field of view.
Choosing sources
We prioritize primary and authoritative sources whose methods can be traced, including NASA, NOAA, CTBUH, museums, and peer-reviewed research. When credible values differ, we explain the definition and range instead of hiding the disagreement.
Stories that begin with scale
Comparison is one tool for understanding, not the limit of every story. Size becomes a clue that leads into how a subject lives, how it was built, how it was discovered, and why it matters—giving readers room to enter its world.
Connecting stories and exhibits
The written stories unfold ecology, history, structure, and research context. The 3D exhibits make scale tangible by placing subjects in the same measured space. Both formats begin with the same evidence and offer different ways to understand it.
Review and authorship
Every story identifies its publication date and sources. When research or official figures change, we update both the story and the exhibit data. Articles are currently credited to ‘ScaleCheck’ and add original context rather than reproducing source material.
